Find Live Content on a ViP Receiver

  1. Press the GUIDE button.
  2. Arrow through the content and select the program you want to watch.

  1. Press the SEARCH button.
  2. Enter the title or keyword to find a program.
  3. Select Done.
  4. Select your desired Theme preferences.
  5. Select Get Results.

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) allows you to see two pictures from TV1 and TV2 on the TV1 screen. Single Mode must be enabled to use PiP.

  1. Press the PiP button.
  2. The PiP window will appear.
  3. If desired, press the PiP button again to move the secondary image to a different position.

DVR

From the Guide
  1. Press the GUIDE button.
  2. Arrow to and select the program you want to record.
  3. Press the RECORD button.
  4. Select your desired timer preferences.
  5. Select Create Timer.
  6. The Attention 531 pop-up will display.
From Live TV
  1. Tune to the program you want to record.
  2. Press the RECORD button.
  3. Select OK.
From Search
  1. Press the SEARCH button.
  2. Enter the title or keyword to find a program.
  3. Select Done.
  4. Select your desired Theme.
  5. Select Get Results.
  6. Arrow to and select the program you want to record.
  7. Select your desired timer preferences.
  8. Select Create Timer.
From Manual Timer
  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. Select Timers.
  4. Select Manual Timer.
  5. Choose your desired Manual Timer Frequency, Type, and Channels.
  6. Select Edit Time.
  7. Choose your desired Start Time, End Time, and Date.
  8. Select Done.

My Recordings
  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select My Recordings.
  3. Arrow to and select the program you want to watch.
  4. Select Start.
Access External Hard Drive (EHD) from ViP

Recordings stored on an External Hard Drive can be easily accessed through the receiver

  1. Press MENU.
  2. Select Multimedia.
  3. Select My Media.
  4. Select Manage Device under DISH Recordings.
  5. Select the recordings you want to access.
  6. Select your desired action.
Recordings from External Hard Drive

These are the steps needed to play recorded content stored on an external hard drive when connected to a 612 or 622 receiver

  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button twice.
  2. Select My Media.
  3. Select the event you want to play back.
  4. Select Play.
  5. Select Start on the "My Media Event" screen.

 

Managing Recordings with an External Hard Drive on a ViP Receiver

Play Back from External Hard Drive
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button twice.
  2. Select My Media.
  3. Select the event you want to play back.
  4. Select Play.
  5. Select Start.
Transfer Recordings from External Hard Drive to Receiver
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button twice.
  2. Select My Media.
  3. Select the event to transfer back to receiver.
  4. Select Restore.
  5. "Attention 868" will display.
  6. When the transfer is complete, "Attention 864" will display. To play the recorded event now, select "Yes", otherwise select "No".
Transfer Recordings from Receiver to External Hard Drive

Recordings can be moved to an External Hard Drive to save space and record more. Rental items such as Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View can not be transferred.

  1. Connect the External Hard Drive to the receiver.
  2. Select Yes on the Attention 852 pop-up.
  3. Under DISH Recordings, select Send to Device.
  4. Select the recordings you want to transfer (selected recordings are indicated with a purple box).
  5. Select To Archive.
  6. Select View TV.
  7. Select Done on the Attention 862 pop-up.
Delete Recordings on a ViP Receiver
  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select My Recordings.
  3. Select the recording(s) you want to delete.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Select Yes on the Warning 511 pop-up.
Protect & Unprotect Recordings

The Protect option allows you to preserve an event from being deleted from the DVR. Unprotecting the event will allow that event to be deleted. There are different methods used to protect and unprotect recordings.

Protect a Recording Before It's Recorded
  1. From Live TV, press the GUIDE button.
  2. Select the desired event.
  3. Select "Options".
  4. Select "Protect Event".
  5. Select "Save".
  6. Select "Create Timer".
Protect/Unprotect an Existing Recording
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select the desired recording.
  3. Select "Protect" or "Unprotect". If your system is locked, you will first have to enter your password.
Protect/Unprotect Multiple Existing Recordings
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select "Edit".
  3. Select the desired recordings.
  4. Select "Protect" or "Unprotect". If your system is locked, you will first have to enter your password.
Manage Recording Groups on a ViP Receiver
Create Groups
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select "Group Edit".
  3. Select "Create Group".
  4. Create the title using EITHER: The on-screen keyboardKeyboard displayed on screen to enter group title OR The letters associated with the NUMBER buttons.
  5. Select "Done".
  6. The Groups List should display the new group.
Delete Groups
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select "Group Edit".
  3. Select "Delete Group".
  4. Select the desired group.
  5. Select the desired delete option "Group(s) Only" - Deletes group only "Group(s) and Event(s)" - Deletes group and any recording in same group
Group Before Recording - From Create Timer Screen
  1. On the "Create Timer" screen, select "Options".
  2. Select “Set to Group”.
  3. Select the desired group. The assigned group should be displayed.
Group Before Recording - From Manual Timer Screen
  1. On the "Manual Timer" screen, select "Options".
  2. Select “Set to Group”.
  3. Select the desired group. The assigned group should be displayed.
Group Before Recording - From DISH Pass Screen
  1. On the "DISH Pass" screen, select "Options".
  2. Select “Set to Group”.
  3. Select the desired group. The assigned group should be displayed.
Group After Recording - Assign Single Recording
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select the program you want to group.
  3. Select "Add to Group".
  4. Select the desired group.
Group After Recording - Assign Multiple Recordings
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 2 times.
  2. Select "Edit".
  3. Select the desired recordings or groups.
  4. Select "Add to Group".
  5. Select the desired group.
Edit Recordings on a ViP Receiver
  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select My Recordings.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Select the recording(s) you want to edit.
  5. Select your preferred action.

View Timers
From Daily Schedule
  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. The Daily Schedule will display all upcoming recordings
From Timers Screen
  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. Select Timers.
  4. The Timers screen will display all timers.
From Guide
  1. Press the GUIDE button.
  2. Press the GUIDE button.
View Skipped Events
Future Skipped Events

View Future Skipped Events to make sure upcoming programs will be recorded. If needed, see Restore Skipped Events.

  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 3 times.
  2. Highlight the desired future event that is scheduled to be skipped.
  3. The reason the event will be skipped should be shown on the "Daily Schedule" screen.
Past Skipped Events

View Past Skipped Events to find out why a program was not recorded.

  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 3 times.
  2. Select the event that was skipped.
  3. The reason the event was skipped should be shown on the "Timer Event" screen.
Edit Timers
From Daily Schedule
  1. Press the MENU button

  2. Select Daily Schedule

  3. Select Timers

  4. Select Edit List

  5. Select the timers you want to edit

  6. Select your desired action

  7. Select Done

From Guide
  1. Press the GUIDE button
  2. Arrow to and select the scheduled recording you want to edit
  3. Select your desired timer
  4. Select Timer
  5. Select Options
  6. Select your desired preferences
  7. Select Save
Set Scheduled Event Priority

There are several ways to set the priority of a scheduled recording timer.

While Creating a Timer
  1. On the "Create Timer" screen, select "Set Priority"
  2. Change the timer priority using EITHER: The on-screen options "Move Up," "Move Down," "Move to Top," "Move to Last" OR The CHANNEL ▲/▼ buttonsChannel up and down arrow buttons on the DISH remote
  3. Select "Done"
While Creating a Manual Timer
  1. On the "Manual Timer" screen, select "Set Priority"
  2. Change the timer priority using EITHER: The on-screen options "Move Up," "Move Down," "Move to Top," "Move to Last" OR The CHANNEL ▲/▼ buttonsChannel up and down arrow buttons on the DISH remote
  3. Select "Done"
While Creating a DISH Pass Timer
  1. On the "DISH Pass" screen, select "Set Priority".
  2. Change the timer priority using EITHER: The on-screen options "Move Up," "Move Down," "Move to Top," "Move to Last"Buttons to move timer up or down the priority list, or move them to the top or bottom OR The CHANNEL ▲/▼ buttons.
  3. Select "Done".
While Editing a Timer
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 3 times.
  2. Select “Timers”.
  3. Select "Set Priority".
  4. Select the desired timer.
  5. Change the timer priority using EITHER: The on-screen options "Move Up," "Move Down," "Move to Top," "Move to Last" OR The CHANNEL ▲/▼ buttons.
  6. Select "Done".
Restore Skipped Events

There are two methods used to restore a future event. Events that have already started cannot be restored.

Using the Guide
  1. From Live TV, press the GUIDE button.
  2. Highlight the desired skipped event and press the SELECT buttonon-screen guide showing skipped event.
  3. The "Daily Schedule" screen will display with the selected event highlighted. Press the SELECT button.
  4. Select "Restore".
  5. If a timer conflict occurs, see Resolve Timer Conflicts.
Using the DVR Button
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 3 times.
  2. Highlight the desired skipped event and press the SELECT button.
  3. Select "Restore".
  4. If a timer conflict occurs, see Resolve Timer Conflicts.
Delete Timer
  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. Select Timers.
  4. Select Edit List.
  5. Select the timers you want to delete.
  6. Select Delete.
  7. Select Yes on the Attention 534 pop-up.
Skip an Event

There are two methods used to skip events.

Using the Guide
  1. From Live TV, press the GUIDE button.
  2. Highlight the desired scheduled event and press SELECT.
  3. The "Daily Schedule" screen should display with the selected event highlighted. Press the SELECT button.
  4. Select "Skip".
Using the DVR Button
  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button 3 times.
  2. Highlight the desired scheduled event and press the SELECT button.
  3. Select "Skip".
Resolve Timer Conflicts

Timers are listed in order of priority from highest to lowest. Non Pay-Per-View events prioritize by the timer that was created first. Pay-Per-View events prioritize by the most recently created timer. If a timer conflict occurs, the event belonging to the higher priority timer will be recorded.

Restore Skipped Timers
Using Daily Schedule
  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. Select the timer you want to restore.
  4. Select Restore.
  5. Select Yes.

  1. Press the GUIDE button.
  2. Arrow to and select the event you want to restore.
  3. Select the event you want to restore.
  4. Select Restore.
  5. Event will indicate it has been restored by user.
