Using your DVR with DISH Anywhere

With the DISH Anywhere app you can watch recordings you saved to your DVR  from any supported device, anywhere with internet access. Recording content to DVR allows you to watch your favorites whenever you want and fast forward through commercials.

DISH customers get 2TB of DVR storage as a part of their package. Anything you record to your DVR is saved for as long as you’re a customer. 

Set up a recording


Select any upcoming or live content you want to save to your DVR, then select Record.
For shows and series, you’ll have the option to set up future recordings as well. 

  • Select All episodes to record all upcoming showings of the selected show, including old episodes that air again. We won’t save duplicate episodes to the DVR. 
  • Select New episodes to skip reruns and only record newly released episodes.

Please note: A small number of channels do not allow recording. In these cases, the record button will not be available.

Manage recordings


You can manage all of your recordings from the DVR tab. 

 

To delete:

  • Select Recordings.
  • Use the trash can icon to delete the entire series, or select the program to manage each episode individually.

To set up or edit recurring recordings. Select the Timers tab, then select any program.  You can edit:

  • Which episodes you want to record
  • How much buffer time should be at the start or end of the recording
  • How many episodes to keep
  • The priority level of the recording (this ensures your top shows aren’t skipped when there are conflicting recordings scheduled)

View scheduled recordings


To check on your upcoming recordings, visit the DVR tab of your DISH Anywhere app, then select Daily Schedule.

View DVR space


Visit the DVR tab on your DISH Anywhere app and select Recordings. A progress bar at the top of the page will show how much DVR space has been used, and how much is available.

 

When you run out of space, your oldest recordings will be deleted to make room for new recordings.

FAQs

What happens to my recordings if I cancel my DISH service?

 

Once you end your DISH service, recordings you’ve made won’t be available anymore. You can still use DANY to watch content you purchased.

 

If you’ve paused your DISH account, you can still use DANY to watch anything you’ve recorded to your DVR.

 

What happens if I run out of space?

 

When there’s no more room to save new content, we’ll make room by deleting the oldest recordings in your DVR library.

 

You can manage your recordings from the Hopper to protect them from being deleted when you run out of space.

 

You can also make space yourself by deleting the recordings you no longer want. To delete recordings, visit the DVR tab then select Recordings. Use the trash can icon to delete the entire series, or select the program to manage each episode individually.

 

Why can’t I see the record option?

 

Recording is available on 99% of channels. If you don't see the option to record, that channel is only available to watch live.
