Control your internet-connected Hopper, Joey, or Wally family receiver with just your voice and a compatible Alexa-enabled device.
Supported Amazon devices include: Echo Dot, Amazon Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Spot, Echo Show, and Amazon Tap. Not sure what product you have? Log in to your Amazon account and visit Your Content and Devices.
Pair Amazon Alexa with your Hopper, Wally, or Joey.
Make sure your Alexa-enabled device is plugged in and set up.
On your mobile device, download the Amazon Alexa app from the app store. Log in to the app.
Select the Menu icon along the upper-left corner, and then "Settings." Under the Alexa Preferences section, choose "TV & Video." Scroll down and select the plus symbol next to "DISH," and then "Enable Skill."
Press the Home button twice on your remote. Select "Settings," and then "Amazon Alexa." Choose "Get Code."
Enter the code on the TV screen into the Alexa app on your mobile device. Select "Activate," then "Done" on your TV screen.
In the Alexa app, choose "Next" to begin the linking process. Select the "X" at the top of the Alexa app, and then wait for Alexa to discover your DISH receiver.
Select the desired receiver from the list you want to pair Alexa to. Choose "Continue."
In the next window, select the desired Amazon Alexa device. Then "Link Devices." Select "Link Another Device" to pair an Alexa-enabled device to another receiver. Or choose "Return to DISH" to finish.
Now, you can use Amazon Alexa to turn on your TV, fast-forward and rewind programming, find shows, and more.

All compatible Echo devices connect to dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz/5 GHZ) networks. Dot, Echo, Spot, and Echo Plus use the 802.11 a/b/g/n standard. Echo Plus also uses the 802.11 ac standard. Amazon Tap uses only 802.11 b/g/n. Ad-hoc (peer-to-peer) only supported on Amazon Tap.
If this is a new receiver, you will see Disable Skill instead. Select Disable Skill, then either select Enable Skill to integrate with the new receiver, or leave it disabled if you no longer want Alexa integration with the receiver.
Your DISH receiver and Alexa-enabled device are now paired, and you can use voice commands to control your DISH viewing experience.

Alexa can perform an integrated search that returns results from across multiple platforms such as Netflix, Video on Demand, DVR, and the Guide, when applicable. You can search by program name, genre, or actor name criteria.
After Alexa retrieves your search results, use your DISH remote to select or play the desired choice.
“Alexa, search for The Big Bang Theory”

Change the channel by using a specific channel name or the channel number. Note, many events are still confused with apps or music when using the "play" command. Using "watch" tends to be more successful.
“Alexa, tune to HGTV”

Alexa can enact transport controls like pause, resume, and skip back/forward. The more specific you are with these requests, the better, as phrasing can affect Alexa’s interpretation of your command.
For example, saying “Alexa, stop” may interfere with other commands currently being carried out.
“Alexa, stop recording”
“Alexa, play” or “Alexa, resume”
“Alexa, skip back” or “Alexa, skip forward”
A timeframe can be specified, e.g. 60 seconds. If a timeframe is not stated, the default skip is 30 seconds.
Alexa will play recorded content from your DVR. This can be a full and complete recording from your Recordings folder, or live TV that has been paused and is buffering – the content must already be recorded for playback to be able to initiate.
