Apps

Google Play Store access expands your entertainment options. Install apps like Max or Discovery Plus right to your Hopper Plus or Joey 4.

 

These instructions will help you navigate installing apps from the Google Play Store, giving you the ability to use applications right from the Hopper without having to switch between devices.

  1. Press the HOME button.
  2. Make sure you have logged into your Google account.
  3. Scroll down to the Apps shelf and select Google Play Store. Note: You may need to scroll to the right to find the Google Play Store option, since the Apps shelf will reorder by the last used app first.
  4. Search for the App using Voice or Text Search.
  5. Select the App and follow the on-screen prompts to install it.

To use Amazon Prime Video, you must have an internet-connected Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling (or a 4K Joey or Joey 3 connected to a Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling) with a minimum download speed of 3 Mbps.

Log In

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Prime Video.
  3. Select the "Sign in and start watching" button. Note: If you opt out of signing in on this screen, you'll need to sign in once you're ready to rent or purchase content.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts for signing on to your Amazon account online at amazon.com/mytv.
  5. Once you have successfully signed in, select "Continue" to start watching Amazon Prime Video content.

Deregister Your Receiver

If you decide you no longer want to use Amazon Prime Video on your receiver, you can deregister your device. (If you decide to start using Amazon Prime Video on your receiver again, you will be prompted to log in again.)

  1. From the Amazon Prime Video home screen, select Settings.
  2. Select Deregister your device.
  3. Select Deregister Your Device again.
  4. Select OK on the confirmation pop-up.
  5. You will receive a confirmation that your receiver has been deregistered. Select OK to return to the Amazon Prime Video home screen.

Parental Controls

Parental Controls for Amazon Prime Video content and purchases are managed directly through Amazon. Visit https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/settings/parental-controls and sign into your Amazon account to update your preferences.

DISH Music gives you the ability to sync music throughout your home using one central control. This feature uses TV audio systems connected to Hopper with Sling, Hopper Duo, or Hopper 3 DVRs (including connected Joeys), as well as DTS Play-Fi-enabled speakers, to play music from personal libraries on mobile devices and popular streaming services, like Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora and TIDAL.

  1. Download the DISH Music app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Amazon App Marketplace.
  2. Accept the user agreements by tapping OK.
  3. Ensure your mobile device is in the vicinity of your Hopper with Sling, Hopper Duo, or Hopper 3 receiver and on the same wireless network, then select the location with which you would like to pair your device.
  4. Choose your music source preference. Examples: Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora, your personal library, etc.
  5. If applicable, select your speaker preference. Select Switch to output music to a different speaker. Select Add/Remove to change or add new speakers.

 

You’re all set! The “Now Playing” screen gives you the album art and complete control of your music.

Sportsbook - Place a Bet

  1. Select the tab for the type of sport.
  2. If this is your first time using the app: Follow the on-screen instructions to receive a text message and download the appropriate application.
  3. When the application is downloaded, follow the on screen instructions to verify the number with a code. Once verified, you can use your mobile device to place wagers on specific games.
  4. Highlight the specific game and select Place A Bet.

Sportsbook - View a Game

  1. Select the tab for the type of sport.
  2. Highlight the specific game and select Record. If the game is currently airing, the Watch button will also be available.

Daily Fantasy - Show Details

  1. Select the tab for the type of sport.
  2. Highlight the specific contest and select Show Details.

Daily Fantasy - Enter Contest

  1. Select the tab for the type of sport.
  2. Highlight the specific contest and select Text Me A Link.
  3. Follow the on screen instructions to receive a text message and complete the contest entry on your mobile device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I place a wager?

After launching the DraftKings app on the DISH receiver, you can select an event that you're interested in and select the “Place A Bet” button. After entering a phone number (and validating the number if using it for the first time), a text message will be sent with a link to the specific sporting event or daily fantasy contest. This link will open within the appropriate DraftKings app.

 

The appropriate DraftKings app must be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If you want to place a wager on a sporting event, the "DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino" app will be used. If you are playing Daily Fantasy, the "DraftKings Fantasy Sports" app will be used. There are four different DraftKings apps available, so be sure to download the correct application.

Game Finder is the quickest way to find all of your favorite sports content. Simply open the app and search for your favorite team to find all current and upcoming games and view real time updates! Now available on all Hopper receivers.

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select the Game Finder app.
  3. Game Finder will display scores on the bottom of the screen beginning with Today’s games followed by Favorite teams and your selected Sports.
  4. Arrow to and select the game you want to watch. Select Watch or Record (if airing will be later).
  5. For additional display options, press the RED COLOR or Options button on your remote.

The My Account app lets you pay your bill, view previous bills, and manage other account settings.

 

To begin:

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select My Dish.

Make a Payment

You can pay your bill from your receiver if you have a broadband or phone connection.

  1. Select Make a Payment.
  2. Choose your payment amount, then select Next.
  3. Input your payment method information, then select Next.
  4. Select Confirm Payment.

View Bill History

  1. Select Bill & Payment History.
  2. Select a bill or payment to see details.

Manage Your Programming

  1. Select Manage TV.
  2. Select the type of programming you want to change or add.
  3. Select the sub-category of programming you want to change or add.
  4. Select a package to view its details.
  5. To change your programming to the selected package, select Subscribe.
  6. Review the price change, then select Check Out to continue. Select Undo if you no longer want to change to this package.
  7. Review the channels you'll gain or lose, then select Continue.
  8. Review the final proposed changes to your monthly bill, then select Submit to confirm the change.

View Rentals & Pay-Per-View History

Use the Hopper menus to view the history of Pay-Per-View or On Demand content ordered.
  1. Select Rentals & PPV.
  2. Review your previous rental or Pay-Per-View activity.

Restore Disconnected Account

  1. Select Restore My Service.
  2. Review the bill details, then select Next.
  3. Choose your payment amount.
  4. Input your payment method information, then select Next.
  5. Review the payment details, then select Confirm Payment.

The Netflix App allows customers with a Wally, Hopper 3, Hopper w/ Sling, or Hopper Duo and any linked Joey to access their Netflix account from the receiver. The number of streams that can be viewed simultaneously depends on your subscription plan with Netflix, but cannot exceed four.

Log In/Out

To log in:

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Netflix.
  3. Select Sign In.
  4. Enter your email address and password associated with your Netflix account.
  5. Select the profile you want to use.

To log out:

  1. From the Netflix landing page, press MENU or Back, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Exit Netflix.

Show Netflix Titles in Search Results

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Enter title, name, or keyword to find a program.
  4. Press the RED color button or the Options button, depending on your remote, to integrate Netflix into search results.
  5. Select Netflix.
  6. Arrow to and select the program you want to watch.

Log In/Out

To log in:

  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Pandora.
  4. Select I Have a Pandora Account.
  5. Enter your email address and password associated with your Pandora account.
  6. Select Sign In.

To log out:

  1. From the Pandora landing page, select Sign Out.
  2. Select Yes on the confirmation screen.

Search for New Stations in Pandora

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Pandora, then follow the steps above to log in if you haven't already logged in.
  4. Select CREATE NEW STATION.
  5. Enter title, name, or keyword to find your desired station.
  6. Arrow to and select the desired station.
  7. Select the desired station from Your Station List to listen.

WeatherNation

WeatherNation allows you to view your local weather forecast using your ZIP Code or city.

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select WeatherNation.
  4. Press the RED COLOR or Options button, depending on your remote.
  5. Select Settings.
  6. Select Add Location.
  7. Enter City or ZIP Code.
  8. Select your location from the results list.

Weather Channel

The Weather Channel allows you to view your local weather forecast using your ZIP Code or city. The Weather Channel app can be accessed either via the menu (as shown below) or by pressing Select while watching the SD version of the Weather Channel.

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Weather.
  3. Highlight the current location.
  4. Scroll to the right and select Add Location.
  5. Enter ZIP Code or City Name and select your desired result.
  6. Select 7 Day, Next 24, or Hourly to see different views of upcoming weather in the selected city or region.
  7. To delete a location, select Options. Note: Options also allows you to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, watch Local Now weather, as well as watch the Weather Channel live.
  8. Select Locations.
  9. Select the location you wish to remove, and select Delete.
  10. To watch TV while also monitoring weather, select Minimize App to reduce the size of the Weather Channel app. Select Maximize App to return to full screen.

The YouTube and YouTube Kids apps allow customers with an internet-connected Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling to search YouTube and watch videos. Use your DISH Voice Remote to quickly search for your favorite videos or content while inside the YouTube App.

Log In/Out

To log in:

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select YouTube.
  3. Select Account, then select SIGN IN.
  4. Authenticate the YouTube app by going to youtube.com/activate and inputting the code.
  5. Once the login process is complete, YouTube will automatically update on the screen.

To log off:

  1. Select Accounts.
  2. Select your account.
  3. Select Sign Out.
Finding Content
  1. Select Search.
  2. Type what you are looking for into the search bar. You can also use the microphone button on your Voice Remote and say what you’re looking for. Wait as the page automatically brings up relevant content.

YouTube Kids

Log In
  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select YouTube Kids.
  3. If you are logging in for the first time, you will be asked to authenticate. Select Get Started.
  4. Enter the year you were born.
  5. If you have already created an account at youtubekids.com or through the mobile app, select YES, SIGN IN. If you do not wish to sign in, select NO, STAY SIGNED OUT.
  6. Read the privacy notice from YouTube Kids, then select I AGREE.
  7. Select the content experience you would like to use, then select Next.
  8. Next, you will be asked to turn the Search feature on or off. If you turn this feature on, you will be able to search for new videos that interest you. If you turn this feature off, the videos available will be a set of channels that have been verified by YouTube Kids.
  9. You will then be guided through information about content and flagging videos.
Finding Content
  1. Select Search.
  2. Type what you are looking for, using the on-screen keyboard.

Multi-View

College Sports Multi-Channel View shows six feeds of college sports across America.

 

For special events including (but not limited to) certain playoffs, Olympics, and Election Day, College Sports Multi-View will default to showing that specific type of content.

  1. Enter 151 on the number pad (on the 50.0 remote, first press the 1 2 3 button)
  2. Arrow to and select the channel you want to watch.

Customizable Multi-View is an exclusive Hopper 3 feature that uses Picture-in-Picture to display four feeds of programming at one time. These feeds can be modified by the customer according to their preferences. Programming can include, but is not limited to, Live TV, DVR events, VOD, etc.

  1. Press the RED COLOR or Options button, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Picture In Picture.
  3. Select MultiView.
  4. The last four previously-viewed channels will display.

Multi-Channel View is an app that displays six predetermined and non-customizable channels at one time. These feeds may change depending on program availability. Multi-Channel View is available on any Hopper and its associated Joeys.

 

  1. Enter 100 on the number pad (on the 50.0 remote, first press the 1 2 3 button).
  2. Arrow to and select the channel you want to watch.

 

If a soccer game is playing on beIN sports, beIN sports en Espanol, ESPN Deportes, Fox Deportes, or NBC Universo, Multi-Channel View will display as Futbol360.

Futbol360 Multi-Channel View shows four feeds with the best soccer leagues in the world.

 

  1. Enter 870 on the number pad (on the 50.0 remote, first press the 1 2 3 button).
  2. Arrow to and select the channel you want to watch.

Picture-in-picture allows you to watch two programs at the same time.

 

  1. Press the PiP or Options button, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Picture In Picture.
  3. Arrow to and select your desired Picture-in-Picture setting. Your selected option will display.

Search allows you to find your favorite programming – whether it is available on DISH or another source – to watch live and/or create timers to record it.

Manage Recordings

AutoHop allows customers to skip all commercials on most PrimeTime Anytime recordings from the big four networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select PrimeTime Anytime. The PrimeTime Anytime screen will display all PrimeTime Anytime content.
  3. Arrow to and select the program you want to watch.
  4. If applicable, arrow to and select the episode you want to watch.
  5. Select Start Over.
  6. Attention 410 will display. select Yes.

From Search

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Enter title, name, or keyword to find a program.
  4. Select your desired result.
  5. Select the Record option. A confirmation message will appear.

 

From Game Finder

  1. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Game Finder.
  4. Arrow to and select the game you want to record.
  5. Select Record.
  6. Select OK on the Timer Scheduled pop-up.

 

From Guide

You can set timers for your favorite programming using the Guide.

  1. Press the Guide button.
  2. Arrow to and select the program you want to record.
  3. Choose a recording option.

 

From Live TV

Timers can be created while watching live TV.

  1. Tune to the program you want to record.
  2. On a 40.0 remote, press the Record button once to record, twice to record the series, or three times to create a timer. On other remotes, press the Select button.
  3. Select the record icon (red dot).
  4. Press the Select button again to bring up timer options.

 

From Manual Timers

Manual timers are used to schedule recordings based on a specific channel.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Timers.
  3. Press the RED COLOR or Options button, depending on your remote.
  4. Select Create a Timer.
  5. Select your desired timer preferences.
  6. Select Create.

Access your DVR recordings, PrimeTime Anytime events, or recordings from an External Hard Drive.

(PrimeTime Anytime only available with Hopper, Hopper w/ Sling, and Hopper 3.)

 

From My Recordings

My Recordings organizes all recordings into one place. The order on this screen is consistent to begin with PrimeTime Anytime, rentals, sources (if applicable), alphabetized folders (if applicable), and then by whichever filter is set for events.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Arrow to and select the program you want to watch.
  3. If needed, select the episode you want to watch.
  4. Select Resume/Start Over.

 

From PrimeTime Anytime

PrimeTime Anytime events are organized by whichever filter is placed on events. These events will stay in this folder for 8 days. If the event is saved it will appear in the PrimeTime Anytime folder and the DVR folder until the 8 days has passed.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select PrimeTime Anytime.
  3. Arrow to and select the program you want to watch.
  4. If needed, select the episode you want to watch.
  5. Select Watch/Start Over.

 

From Another Hopper or External Hard Drive

A Hopper can access the recordings from another Hopper in the same home network. That other Hopper or an External Hard Drive (if available) is accessible through Options or Sources.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Sources.
  3. Select the storage device from which you want to find content.

You can restore events that have been deleted from the DVR if it's been less than 48 hours since they were deleted.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Trash.
  3. Arrow to and select the recording you want to restore.
  4. Press the BLUE COLOR or Recall button, depending on your remote.

Allows you to preserve an event from being deleted from the DVR. Un-protecting the event will allow that event to be deleted.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Press the RED COLOR or Options button, depending on your remote.
  3. Select Manage Recordings.
  4. Arrow to and select the recording(s) you want to protect.
  5. Select Protect.

Organize your recordings by placing them in custom folders.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Press the RED COLOR or Options button, depending on your remote.
  3. Select Manage Recordings.
  4. Arrow to and select which programs you wish to add to your folder.
  5. Select Move to Folder.
  6. Select a Folder or Create New Folder.

PrimeTime Anytime recordings can be saved so they aren't deleted with the rest of the PrimeTime Anytime recordings after 8 days. Saving an episode will move it to the My Recordings folder. Saving a series will create a recurring timer for the program.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select PrimeTime Anytime.
  3. Arrow to and select the recording you want to save.
  4. If necessary, arrow to and select the episode you want to save.
  5. Select Save or Save Series.

Content can be moved between Hoppers, or to an external hard drive (EHD) to save space and to record more. To transfer a PrimeTime Anytime recording to an EHD, the event must be saved to the DVR and more than 8 days old.

 

To External Hard Drive

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Press the RED COLOR or Options button.
  3. Select Manage Recordings.
  4. Arrow to and select the recording(s) you want to transfer.
  5. Select Transfer to External Drive.
  6. Select Transfer.
  7. Status bar will reflect transfer progress.
  8. Select OK on the Transfer Complete 854 pop-up.

From External Hard Drive

  1. Connect the External Hard Drive to the Hopper.
  2. Press the DVR button.
  3. Select Sources.
  4. Select External Hard Drive 1.
  5. Press the RED COLOR or Options button.
  6. Select Manage Recordings.
  7. Choose your desired recordings to transfer (chosen recordings are indicated with a check mark).
  8. Select Transfer to Hopper.
  9. Select Transfer.
  10. Select Watch TV while recording is transferring.
  11. Select OK on the Transfer Complete pop-up 854.

Manage DVR Timers

You can set timers to automatically record content, like a particular showing of a movie or all episodes of a TV show.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Timers.
  3. Arrow to and select the timer you want to edit.
  4. Select Edit Timer.
  5. Apply your desired timer preferences.
  6. Select Save.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Timers.
  3. Arrow to and select the timer you want to delete.
  4. Select Delete Timer.

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Schedule.
  3. Select Skip Event.

A recording conflict occurs when more timers are created for a single timeframe than there are tuners available.

 

  1. Recording Conflict 1012 will automatically display when there is a conflict.
  2. To resolve the conflict, choose your preferred option: Record Next Airing, Do Not Record, or Resolve Conflict.
  3. If you select Resolve Conflict, arrow to and select the conflict you want to resolve.
  4. Select your desired viewing option to resolve the conflict: Record Next Airing, Restore, or Do Not Record.

There are several reasons why timers can be skipped. Below are the most common reasons a timer may have been skipped.

Event Skipped

An event from a higher priority timer is set to record at the same time as this event.

By User

Someone in the household chose to skip this event.

Duplicate Event

This event was previously recorded — deleted from DVR.

Exists in DVR

This event was previously recorded - still on DVR.

Incorrect Event

A timer was created for time-of-day and title. This event's title does not match.

Not a New Event

The "New Episode" option was selected when creating this time and this event was not a new episode.

You can restore your skipped events using the Daily Schedule or directly from the Guide. This is only an option on the Wally when using an external hard drive (EHD).

 

From Daily Schedule

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select Schedule.
  3. If skipped recording(s) do not display, press the Options button.
  4. Select Skipped.
  5. Arrow to and select the skipped program(s) you want to restore. Skipped programs have a white line through the text.    
  6. Select Record This.

 

From Guide

  1. Press the Guide button.
  2. Arrow to and select the skipped program you want to restore. Skipped programs are indicated by a white circle with a skip arrow.
  3. Select Restore.
