ViP Receiver Settings

Set Audio Preferences

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Alternate Audio.
  4. Select your desired language.
  5. Select Done.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Closed Caption.
  4. Select Caption On/Off.
  5. Select your desired closed captioning preference.
  6. Select Done.

The DISH remote defaults to controlling the TV's volume. This setting allows you to change the default to an auxiliary device. This will only work if the auxiliary device has already been programmed to the remote.

 

  1. Press and hold the AUX mode button. To disable AUX Volume, press and hold the TV mode button.
  2. Press the POUND (#) button.
  3. Press the VOLUME UP button.
  4. Press the 0 button.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Audio Output.
  4. Select your desired Decoder preference.
  5. Select Done.

Volume leveling evens out the loudness of the audio between programs and commercials.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Audio Output.
  4. Select your desired Volume Leveling preference.
  5. Select Done.

Display Preferences

The screen can be adjusted to different aspect ratios. This setting allows you to resize the image to better fit your TV.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select HDTV Setup.
  4. Select your desired Aspect Ratio preference.
  5. Select Done.

Caller ID pop-ups show incoming calls on the screen while watching a program. This setting allows you to turn these pop-ups on or off.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Installation.
  4. Select Caller ID.
  5. Select your desired Caller ID preference.
  6. Select Done.

Inactivity timing will set your ViP receiver to automatically enter standby mode after a certain period of inactivity.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Updates.
  4. Select your desired Inactivity Standby preference.
  5. Select Save.

The Format button allows you to change the shape and size of the screen to customize the display format on TV1 (TV2 will have a Letterbox format when tuned to an HD channel). Toggle the picture to Normal, Stretch, Zoom, Partial Zoom, or Grey Bar with each button press.

 

  1. Press the * button until your desired screen format is achieved.

Changing your Modulator setup allows you to adjust which channel your TV2 needs to be on in order to watch programming.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Installation.
  4. Select Modulator Setup.
  5. Select your desired Modulator Setup preferences.
  6. Select Done.

TV resolution affects the clarity of the picture. This setting allows you to set your TV type to its best possible setting in order to see a clearer picture.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select HDTV Setup.
  4. Select your desired TV Type preference.
  5. Select Done.

When SAT mode reminder pop-ups are enabled, a message will display on screen if the remote is no longer in the correct mode to control your DISH system. This setting allows you to turn these pop-ups on or off.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Mode Reminder.
  4. Select your desired Mode Reminder preference.
  5. Select Done.

Shared View is a feature of Single Mode that makes the TV2 audio and video the same as the TV1 outputs.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Shared View.
  4. Select your desired Shared View preference.
  5. Select Done.

Enhancements make recommendations for other programming or offers based on what you are currently viewing.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Installation.
  4. Select TV Enhancements.
  5. Select your desired TV Enhancements preference.
  6. Select Done.

DVR Preferences

By using Groups or creating your own, you can better organize your DVR recordings.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select My Recordings.
  3. Select Group.
  4. Select your desired Group preferences.

When Record Plus is enabled, you can decide which receiver output (TV1 or TV2) will record your events. TV2 is always the default Record Preference when the receiver is in single mode. This feature is available in Dual Mode only.

Once a timer is created, the record preference for that timer cannot be changed.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Record Plus.
  4. Select your desired Record Preference changes.
  5. Select Done.

This setting will allow you to apply new timer defaults to future recordings. This will also adjust any timers you currently have set.

 

  1. Press the DVR button.
  2. Select My Recordings.
  3. Select Schedule.
  4. Select Timers.
  5. Select a timer.
  6. Select Options.
  7. Select your desired Timer Options preferences.
  8. Select Set as System Default.
  9. Select Save.

Guide Preferences

  1. From live TV, press the GUIDE button twice.
  2. Select Favorites.
  3. Select the list you want to modify.
  4. Select Modify List.
  5. Select all of the channels you want in the list.
  6. Select Done.
  7. Select Save.

You can adjust the display of your Guide to your preferred text size and channel order. In addition, since some channels are available in both HD and SD, you can remove the duplicate SD channels from the Guide.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Guide Format.
  4. Select your desired Guide Format preferences.
  5. Select Save.

Parental controls allow you to restrict content by ratings or by channel number, lock adult channels, or restrict purchases. You can choose whether restricted content appears in the Guide or not.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Locks.
  3. Select Lock System.
  4. Enter your System Lock password on the System Lock Password 147a pop-up.
  5. Select OK on the System Lock Password 147a pop-up.
  6. Select Hide/Show Locked.
  7. Select Yes on the Confirmation 748 pop-up.

Setup & Other Settings

  1. Press and hold the 0 button. The Attention 380 pop-up will display.
  2. Verify that the System Wizard screen says that the remote is configured.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Select Back up my settings now.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Select your desired backup preference.
  7. Select Next. Maintain an unobstructed line of sight between remote and receiver while the green progress bar fills.
  8. Select Continue.

Connect to 211, 211k, 211z, or 411 Receiver

  1. Connect the USB cable from the external hard drive to the receiver. If necessary, connect the external hard drive's power to the wall.
  2. Select Yes on the Attention 428 pop-up.
  3. The Attention 499 pop-up will display instructing you to call DISH.
  4. The Attention 873 pop-up will display and the external hard drive will format. (This can take up to 10 minutes.)
  5. The Acquiring Signal 535 pop-up will display.
  6. The Downloading Program Guide 330 pop-up will display.

 

The receiver should now have DVR functionality.

Connect to 612, 622, 722, or 722k Receiver

  1. Connect your external hard drive's power cable into an electrical outlet. If necessary, connect the external hard drive's power supply to the wall.
  2. Select Yes on the Warning 865 pop-up.
  3. Select Yes on the Warning 867 pop-up.
  4. Allow the Attention 869 pop-up to transition to the Attention 873 pop-up.

 

The external hard drive will reformat and the receiver will restart when complete.

Disconnect External Hard Drive

Disconnecting a receiver from an external hard drive is quick and easy. For all 612, 622, 722, or 722k receiver models, simply disconnect the hard drive's USB cable from the receiver's USB port.

 

For all 211, 211k, or 211z receiver models, follow the steps below:

 

  1. From Live TV, press the DVR button once.
  2. Select Remove DVR.
  3. Select Yes on the Attention 591 pop-up. Information 592 pop-up will display.
  4. Disconnect the USB cable that goes from the External Hard Drive to the receiver’s USB port. Attention 953 pop-up will display.

You can watch broadcast networks on your TV with an Over-the-Air (OTA) antenna. An OTA antenna will pick up the signal emitted by broadcast towers and deliver programming right to your TV.

 

Depending on the signal strength and your antenna, you may receive additional channels beyond the ones you get with DISH, as the antenna may pick up channels in surrounding areas.

 

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Local Channels.
  4. Select Scan Locals. The scan takes up to 5 minutes to complete. When the scan is complete, the results show how many digital over-the-air channels were found.
  5. The Attention 732 pop-up will display. Select OK.
  6. Select Done.

Connecting your receiver to the internet gets you instant access to On Demand ordering and customer support features in DISH Home, like paying your bill. You can always connect an ethernet cable directly to the back of your receiver, or follow the steps below for setting up a wireless connection.

 

Netgear Model WNDA3100v2 is the only supported adapter for use with a compatible DISH receiver.

 

  1. Connect the Wi-Fi Broadband Connector to the USB port on your receiver.
  2. Select Setup on the Attention 396 pop-up.
  3. Arrow to and select your desired network.
  4. Select Done.
  5. Enter your wireless network password.
  6. Select Done.
  7. Select Done on the Information pop-up.
  8. Select OK on the Information 397 pop-up.

  1. Connect the phone cable to the back of the receiver.
  2. Press the MENU button.
  3. Select System Setup.
  4. Select Installation.
  5. Select Phone System.
  6. Enter your required Phone System setup information.
  7. Select Done.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Locks.
  3. Select the parental control(s) you want to edit.
  4. Select Lock System.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select Factory Defaults.
  4. Select Yes on the Warning 093 pop-up.

Restoring your receiver settings will load your saved settings from your remote to your receiver. This function is available on 222k, 722k, and 922 receivers only.

 

  1. Press and hold the 0 button. The Attention 380 pop-up will display.
  2. Select Continue. Maintain an unobstructed line of sight between remote and receiver while the green progress bar fills.
  3. Select Continue.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Updates.
  4. Select your desired update time.
  5. Select Save.
