Did your DISH remote stop controlling your receiver? This problem is typically caused by dead batteries, a remote error, or a receiver error.

Make sure the remote wasn't accidentally carried in from another room.

 

Look on the remote for a sticker with the room name.

Press and release the SAT button (don't hold it down).

Press the SYSTEM INFO button on the front panel of your DISH receiver.

 

If your receiver does not have a SYSTEM INFO button, turn the receiver off using the POWER button, then press the CHANNEL UP button while the receiver is turned off.

While System Info is on the TV, press the SAT button on the remote, then press RECORD.

 

Use the remote to select the Done button at the bottom of the screen.

 

If you are unable to select Done, continue troubleshooting.

Replace the batteries if they have not been replaced in approximately 6 months or if the on-screen battery indicator is low.

 

Place the new batteries with both rows going the same direction, according to the picture.

If you just replaced the batteries in the step above, skip this step.

 

Otherwise, remove the batteries for 10 seconds, then reinsert them with both rows going the same direction according to the picture above.

Make sure the remote antenna is standing upright and connected hand-tight to the receiver. There should not be other electronic equipment or cables touching with the antenna.

 

If your DISH receiver did not come with an antenna, skip this step.

Unplug the power cord of your DISH receiver (typically has a red tag) from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

 

The reset process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
