DISH and Google Assistant Privacy FAQs

We know you’re concerned about your privacy, and we take it seriously. Learn more about our partnership with Google and how your data is handled.

Google Assistant is available only on Hopper Plus and Joey 4 receivers.

Google and DISH have partnered to provide an even more powerful voice search experience. By integrating Google Assistant into the DISH Voice Remote, you will not only be able to search for content and change the channel, but also ask trivia questions, plan your day, and control smart home devices.

This functionality is all being provided to you at no extra cost as part of your DISH package.

For Google to fulfill your voice requests, we need to send them the recording of your voice. To ensure you understand what data is being shared and to allow Google to access your voice recording, you must accept their terms.

No, sign-in is not required to use your DISH Voice Remote. Even without signing in, you will be able to search for content on DISH, change the channel, launch apps, and even experience many Google Assistant features like checking the weather, asking questions, and getting directions.

Once you sign in, your experience becomes personalized to you with access to your daily schedule, Google Photos, and smart home control.

Once you accept the terms, Google only has access to an anonymized device ID and the ZIP code associated with your DISH account. This means no personal information will be shared with them about you or specific details of your DISH account. Google will use this device data to ensure the correct DISH receiver is receiving the right responses.

Your ZIP code is used to provide local weather, directions, and location-specific recommendations. If you choose to sign in to your Google account, Google Assistant will use some information in your Google account to provide additional functionality.
