Use Voice Commands

Using voice commands with the 54-series and 50.0 remotes makes navigating through your internet-connected Hopper Plus or Joey 4 Android TV system a breeze. Learn how to use voice commands and take a look at some sample commands below.

 

How to Use Voice Commands

On the 54-series or 50.0 remote:

  1. Press and hold the MICROPHONE button
    • If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to activate the Google Assistant. Check out these instructions if you need help with this step.
  2. Give an applicable voice command (see examples below)
  3. Release the MICROPHONE button

Voice Command Examples

You can use voice commands to enjoy entertainment! You can also search for videos in the YouTube app on Hopper 3 and Hopper w/ Sling receivers.

 

Note: Commands noted by an asterisk (*) require your receiver to be linked to your Google account. If you don’t have the Google Assistant yet, visit this page for more information.

 

Tip: When using voice commands, speak naturally. Our voice remote will pick up what you’re saying.

 

Enjoy Entertainment:

 

  • Find your programming by searching for an actor, genre, movie, show name, sports team, or year.
        Examples: “Fixer Upper” or “Denver Broncos”
  • Change the channel by name or number.
        Examples: “Go to channel 112” or “Tune to HGTV”
  • Quickly open apps like Netflix and On Demand.
        Examples: “Go to Netflix” or “Go to On Demand”
  • Go right to specific On Demand content.
        Examples: “Go to Discovery On Demand” or “Go to AMC Plus”
  • Play a YouTube video. (Hopper Plus only)
        Example: “Play yoga videos on YouTube”
  • Search for videos while in the YouTube app.
        Example: “Recent movie trailers”
Control Your Hopper:

 

  • Navigate the guide, open the home screen, and go to live TV.
        Examples: “Guide” or “Live TV”
  • Play, pause, fast-forward, or rewind shows.
        Examples: “Play,” “Pause,” or “Fast Forward"
  • Configure settings like audio, screen magnification, and text to speech.
        Examples: “Audio description on” or “Text to speech off”
Get Answers

Ask a question, such as:

  • “What's the score of the basketball game?”
  • “What's the weather today?”
  • “How's traffic to work?”
  • “Where is a nearby pizzeria?”
  • “How far is the moon?”
Manage Daily Tasks*

Get help organizing your life! You can say:

  • “Add bananas to my shopping list”
  • “Add doctor’s appointment to my calendar”
  • “What’s on my agenda today?”
Control Your Smart Home*

Hopper Plus only.

If you have smart-home devices linked with your Google account, you can control them by using applicable commands for your device. For example, you can say:

  • “Dim the living room lights”
  • “Close the blinds”
  • “Lock the front door”
  • “Set the thermostat to 72 degrees”
